Water sports

Northern Ostrobothnia’s sea and lakes offer fantastic opportunities for boating. The Meritulli Guest Harbour serves those arriving in Oulu by boat. Both moorings and harbour services are available at the harbour, which is right on the market square.

Suitable destinations for those with small boats include Varjakka in Oulunsalo, Marjaniemi on Hailuoto island, Kiviniemi in Haukipudas, and Röyttä and Vatunki in Ii.

Why not take a trip from Oulu Market Square on the Alexandra? From here, you can also get out onto the water in kayaks. You can hire canoes/kayaks and organise guided tours and courses at a number of places: canoe and kayak associations, activity service providers, and the Meritulli Guest Harbour.

The River Kiiminki and its whitewater rapids are enough to challenge even experienced kayakers. You can also shoot the River Kiiminki’s Koitelinkoski rapids in a large rubber boat in May and June.

More exotic water sports include kite surfing and Ukkohalla’s cable wakeboard. The Ukkohalla wakepark is Finland’s only and the world’s most northernmost wakeboard cableway.
