The history of the charming old Hamina wooden town district in the centre of Ii dates back to the 14th century, when this area was a major trading venue and port. The houses on both sides of two streets, Alakatu and Yläkatu, are centuries’ old, but restored.
Today this area also hosts the Ii local history museum, the museum café Huilinki, the Huilinki stage and event venue, the Ii church and some local shops nearby. You can enjoy the old part of Ii independently or take a guided tour. Information boards about the history, sources of livelihood, art, people and wildlife in Ii are placed along the Ruustinna route. The destination is sign posted from European route E4.
