Oulu’s flight connections to Europe are expanding ahead of Oulu 2026 – European Capital of Culture.
Discover Airlines launched a new Frankfurt route in June 2025, with direct flights to Oulu twice a week and year-round service starting January 2026. In March 2026, airBaltic will begin direct Oulu–Riga flights five times a week, offering smooth onward connections across Europe. These new routes make Oulu easier to reach for international travelers, strengthening the city’s role as a cultural and business hub in Northern Finland.

Direct flights between Frankfurt and Oulu are now available
Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, is expanding its current Frankfurt–Kittilä route by adding a summer stop in Oulu. Starting in January 2026, the route will operate year-round as a direct connection between Frankfurt and Oulu twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, without continuing to Kittilä.
This new route will significantly enhance Oulu’s international accessibility and strengthen its role as a northern gateway between Central Europe and the Arctic region. The development supports both tourism growth and the area’s international appeal.”
