Frozen Sea to Forest Experience (private)

A bus will pick you up from your accommodation in Oulu and take you to the Nallikari Experience Center, where we will dress in warm thermal clothing and provide participants with snowshoes or sliding snowshoes. Using these, we head out onto the frozen arctic Sea, where a heated tent with a wood-burning stove awaits the group.

During the excursion, we explore a traditional Finnish winter fishing method – the fish trap – which always contains fish, guaranteeing a 100% catch. Participants will get to experience one of the oldest forms of winter fishing in Finland. After this, we drill a hole in the ice, and everyone will have the chance to try using an ice auger and to go ice fishing themselves. Along the way, we share stories about the frozen sea, Oulu’s maritime history, and the surrounding archipelago. This package allows participants to experience the frozen sea at its very best.

After this frozen sea experience, participants board a private bus to continue the journey to the forest. You can bring your thermal clothing with you for the second part of the experience. The ride to Loppula Nature House in the Sanginjoki Nature Reserve takes approximately 30 minutes.

In the Sanginjoki Nature Reserve, at the historic Forest Rangers’ house Loppula, we begin with a traditional Finnish lunch of salmon soup and fresh rolls. After lunch, we start a peaceful walk through the Sanginjoki forests, which were gifted to the City of Oulu by the Swedish King in the 1600s. During the relaxing walk, we share stories about the deep connection between Finnish people and nature, and explore how this relationship ties into Finnish happiness. We experience the surrounding silence and pure nature in a multi-sensory way. At the end of the trip, we gather around the fire to enjoy hot drinks. At the end of the trip, we gather around the fire to enjoy hot drinks before returning to your accommodation.
