Out of Time 30.10.2026–28.3.2027

An exhibition at the Oulu Art Museum tells about a time when reality is an accumulation of parallel and overlapping events; a time when the order that defines our reality seems to be in transition.

Social polarisation and technological change have long shaped the Western landscape. Now, it seems that the familiar structures of society, such as democracy and public institutions, are being tested and transformed.

What kind of lives do we live on screen, and what does reality look like off-screen? Could history and its marginal notes offer insights and tools for overcoming the challenges of our time?

Out of Time brings together contemporary artists whose works span eras from the Middle Ages to the present day. The featured artists are Teija ja Pekka Isorättyä, Jesse Jones (Ireland), Ida Koitila, Daniel Nagy ja Fanny Varjo.

The exhibition is curated by Selina Väliheikki, exhibition curator at the Oulu Art Museum, and is supported by the Finnish Heritage Agency, the Finnish Institute UK+Ireland and Culture Ireland. The exhibition also includes an artwork from the collections of the Aine Art Museum.
