Job Shadowing in a School or Kindergarten

Welcome! City of Oulu is a prominent provider of high-quality education in Northern Finland. We have 84 early childhood education and care centres, 46 comprehensive schools, and 10 upper secondary schools in Oulu.

Job shadowing is aimed for teachers, other education professionals, and students interested in learning through observing the work of a teacher (or principal). Job shadowing is a 5-day experience in a school or kindergarten, and it starts with a short introduction and tour of the school / kindergarten. During the days, the participants observe the work of one or more teachers. In the end of the week, a closure discussion about the experiences and reflections will be held.

Theme:
– Default theme: Finnish Education
– Or upon request, a specific subject’s lessons you would like to observe.

Job shadowing is possible in schools:
– between September and mid-December, and
– between mid-January and mid-May,
– except during school holidays (week 10 & 43, period around Christmas and Easter) and public holidays.
And in kindergartens:
– between August and mid-December, and
– between mid-January and mid-June,
– except during holidays around Christmas and Easter, and public holidays.

Booking:
– Job shadowing is possible with a prebooking only. Kindly send an e-mail (eduoulu (at) ouka.fi) with the date request, group size, school level you’re interested in (early childhood/primary/secondary/upper secondary), and possible theme/subject request.
– Pricing is per participant, min. 4 participants.
– Bigger groups will be divided into two or more schools/kindergartens.

Available with a separate fee and prebooking:
– Lunch at the school/kindergarten, price per person.
– Expert session on a specific topic, price per hour.

The teaching language in the schools is mostly Finnish, unless you request e.g. English, German, French, or Spanish lessons. The language used between the teacher and the job shadowing participant is English.
